2010 Young Investigator Award winners were:
David O'Callaghan, Imperial College London
Nasirul Ekbal, University College London

The research grants of the ICS are aimed primarily at encouraging young research workers. The awards are intended to be pump-priming grants that will lead to further and more substantial support from other grant giving bodies. The grants are open to members and non-members of the Society. 2010 Travelling Fellowship was awarded to James McNamee, Antrim Area Hospital, Northern Ireland.

The Society had a total of £5,000 available to go towards the cost of travel and subsistence expenses for ICS members who wished to travel to an institution other than their own, either within the UK, or overseas.

2010 Gold Medal Award was presented to Dr Andrew Conway Morris, Edinburgh.

The Intensive Care Society wishes to promote and encourage the presentation of the best critical care science in the UK. With this in mind the ICS Research Gold Medal is awarded annually to a young investigator who has shown excellence in science relevant to the intensive care practice. The award process allows a number of finalists to achieve recognition through formal presentation at the ICS State of the Art meeting in front of their peers. State of the Art 2010 Research and Clinical Practice Abstracts

The Research Free Paper Award was presented to Dr Andrew Conway Morris, Edinburgh.
The Clinical Practice Free Paper Award was presented to Dr Charlotte Wade, Manchester.

Each year the ICS offers young investigators the opportunity to present their work in either a poster or oral format at the State of the Art Meeting. For more information please visit the State of the Art Abstracts page.

Undergraduate Medical Student Essay Prize 2010 has not yet been awarded.

The Intensive Care Society would like to invite UK undergraduate medical school students interested in critical care, to participate in the Undergraduate Medical Student Essay Prize - a new initiative by the ICS. A prize of £200 will be awarded for the best essay on a topic relevant to critical care. Please see the Medical Student Essay Prize for further information.

The 2010 Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowships

Each year the Trust awards some 100 Travelling Fellowships to UK Citizens to travel overseas to undertake study projects related to their profession, trade or particular interest. Applications can be made from March 2010. For more information go to www.wcmt.org.uk
