Trainee Career Resources

Trainee Handbook

The Trainee Handbook began life some years ago as a paper publication. In 2005 we issued an updated handbook on CD. Some of the information on the CD is still relevant and is available to download on this page. A paper guide has also been produced by Dr Som Sarkar this year and contains up to date information for Trainees. Please email admin@ics.ac.uk if you have suggestions for future content for the handbook.

Trainees should also consult the Standards Pages for useful information.

The Introduction to Intensive Care Medicine Course iICM

The Introduction to Intensive Care Course iICM is an educational resource for members of the Intensive Care Society. The programme consists of 4 modules of 2 hours duration, which can be delivered as lectures, small group tutorials and skill stations. The programme can be delivered either in a single day or as individual modules if more convenient. Each module could be divided into core content and optional, clearly if the programme is being delivered in 1 day many optional topics may be left out, units could choose which optional topics to deliver depending on their relevance to them. Unit specific information can be added to the generic talks and skill stations. There is a resource folder containing alternative presentations and useful critical care checklists and bundles.

The objective of the programme is to assist members in the delivery of an induction programme for new starters (F2/CT1) to their Intensive Care Units. The aim is that trainees on completion of the course will have been introduced to key areas of critical care practice upon which future teaching can build. We hope this will be particularly useful for those colleagues who do not already have an introductory programme.
