CVC Insertion - a film to aid training and best practice
The Critical Care team at Papworth Hospital has created a film to assist training and dissemination of best practice when inserting a central venous catheter (CVC).
Bloodstream infections associated with CVC insertion are a major avoidable cause of morbidity. Incidence of such infections can be reduced by following best practice. Staff at Papworth Hospital have established a safe approach to CVC insertion and have produced a film to demonstrate their approach. The film also highlights key points from the DH High Impact Intervention No. 1 - central venous catheter care bundle.
Filmed on location at Papworth Hospital, the Critical Care team demonstrates their technique for CVC insertion along with essential infection control measures that should be taken before, during and after the procedure.
The film also includes demonstration of the use of real time ultrasound scanning during the procedure and 3D animations are included to clearly illustrate CVC insertion into the jugular vein.
