An Introduction to Chest Ultrasound for Intensivists

Programme Overview

This one day course is aimed as a basic introduction to the use of chest ultrasound in the intensive care setting. The lecture content of the course will cover the principles of ultrasound physics and machine optimisation, the technique of chest ultrasound, appearances of pleural & lung pathology, indications and technique of pleural aspiration / drainage. The afternoon section will focus on hands-on workshops scanning normal volunteers and ultrasound guided needle technique using phantoms. Pathology will be reviewed in the form of small group teaching using pre-recorded examples.
