Remuneration: £55, 000 - £60, 000 per annum
The Intensive Care Society (ICS) is seeking a fixed-term (one year) Director of Operations to provide effective leadership, and report directly to the Society’s Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.
As a professional charity and the UK’s leading multi-professional critical care organisation, we support highly skilled professionals to develop and deliver care to severely ill patients. We support these healthcare professionals by developing professional practice and education. Through the Intensive Care Foundation we support and fund important UK critical care research with growing and international impact.
The responsibilities of the role include:
Ongoing strategic development of a sector leading charity
Operational delivery of a complex set of educational and scientific outputs
Management of in-house staff and external contractors
Support of a diverse group of clinical Trustees
We seek a dynamic and qualified senior professional with broad management expertise who is able to demonstrate strong leadership, and excellent people management skills. The ideal candidate will have experience in dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders including senior decision makers.
This role will be critical in the development of the organisation. It will enable the post holder to make a significant contribution in an important area and develop their managerial and strategic expertise.

The Journal of the Intensive Care Society is seeking a new Editor-in-Chief to take over from Jonathan Handy as he steps down at the end of this year. Under Jonathan’s leadership the journal has flourished and we are looking for a candidate to continue this momentum.
The Editor-in-Chief is pivotal to the continued development, strategy and day to day management of the journal, therefore experience in academic editing, publication and reviewing is essential.
The position requires an average of 6 - 8 hours per week (almost entirely web-based), and attendance at a minimum of two formal ICS council meetings per year. Strong editorial support is provided through the JICS Editorial Board and administration is provided by the ICS Secretariat.
JICS is integral to our Society, providing a significant and important benefit to our members as well as the wider intensive care community. This is a great opportunity to take the helm of the UK’s leading intensive care journal.
